Happy New 2010!

January 1st, 2010

Hello APNG fans, and Happy New Year!

I’m Max and I’ll be managing animatedpng.com now.
As you might have noticed, some of the info on the site is updated already.
Notably APNG Assembler is at version 2.0 now, and is able to generate highly optimized APNGs. Also more software is presented at the apng editors page, with nice screenshots. You should expect more new stuff in the near future – news, articles, tips, software and samples.

Here’s for the 10s, the APNG decade!

Max.

APNG Campaign

February 18th, 2008

Since we launched this almost a month ago we have been inundated with feedback, mostly good ;) . We have also been receiving close to 4000 visits a day, seems there is definitely in interest in this technology, for good or bad!

A few thoughts have come to my mind, perhaps we need to consider campaigning apng’s within the open source community as well as web designers/developers. It would be interesting to see if this technology will be adapted by software like Gimp and Inkscape. Imagine a built in apng tool that would allow to optimize, sequence, and assemble apng’s.

I would also like to see how creative we can be with apng’s without over doing it, which seems to be the biggest question on peoples minds. I think if we can keep file sizes down and implement apng’s in a useful way, like navigation, simple ads, interface design, logos, etc., then perhaps there is a chance that other will begin to adopt and take advantage of this technology.

Let’s face it, png’s are better than gif ’s, so why are we sitting on the fence?

So, for those apng enthusiasts out there, let’s spread the word and see what happens.

APNG Updates

January 28th, 2008

Over the weekend PHUG members began a re-development project of the APNG site. We received over 4000 visits in the last few days, which lead to an enormous amount of valuable feedback.

We will be continuing our efforts to maintain the most up-to-date information/documentation associated with APNGs, and include a variety of workshops, tutorials and samples as references to this new specification.

We are always looking for contributors to this project including both designers and developers. We encourage everyone to let us know what they would like to see on the site and further developments with this project.

Please contact us at info@phug.ca.

APNG site launches!

January 24th, 2008

PHUG – Open Source Culture , a Toronto based online community, is proud to be a major contributor of the APNG project by launching this site. It is our goal to promote the APNG file format to designers and developers everywhere. We hope that this site becomes a community that APNG enthusiasts can come to learn about APNG development through a wide range of tutorials, samples, and creative concepts.

PHUG has been working hard with help from BackSpaceStudios, Seneca College School of Communication Arts and School of Computer Studies, and Andrew Smith (APNG Developer), to develop an arena where designers and developers can come together to explore new creative avenues.

The APNG community is still in development, we are working on adding tutorials, workshops, and other ways educating the community on APNG’s.

We are always looking for suggestions, feedback, and contributors.
